Mimi S. was born in Berlin in 1974. In her digital paintings, she mostly draws girls with a special attitude and allure, an obstinate personality and a strange beauty. The defiant and moody expression on their faces often reminds her of female members or ancestors of her own family. Although she loves to tell emotional stories of the dark side of female nature, it always has to be accompanied by a portion of evil humour and sarcasm, which is mostly hidden in the detail.

With galleries in three bustling hotspots - New York City, Berlin and London - Strychnin Gallery is a playground for artists from all around the globe. It is a place where collaboration is encouraged, new projects are constantly developed and creativity is the one and only thing that truly counts. Curator and owner Yasha Young is dedicated to presenting emerging American artists to the European art world and vice versa, features a variety of artists with particular individual styles rather than artists belonging to a collective "hip" movement. Far from presenting a mere random selection of purely referential works, however, Young's specific talent lies in making choices that cherish the individual, both artist and viewer, and thrive on the contradictions we all carry within us.
"Strychnin Gallery's philosophy is to feature young artists who are doing something different, who don't follow trends but rather create them. I am interested in artists who have learnt their skills well but do not necessarily use them in traditional ways - I am fascinated by contradictions and by things that are unusual - not unusual for the sake of being unusual but because of a necessity, an inner drive, to be just so. I am a very passionate person and I am dedicated to what I do, and these are the qualities I also cherish in the artists that I feature."
